Age Concern gains from Tesco phones

Age Concern has teamed up with supermarket giant Tesco's Home Phone brand to promote its 'Someone to talk to' initiative.

Home Phone will flag up the campaign in-store, in its in-house magazines and through direct mail.

Tesco will also give £1 to the charity for every new Home Phone customer that joins between now and the end of the year.

Age Concern director-general Gordon Lishman said the money would help fund 'befriending schemes' that send volunteers out to provide contact for older people on their own.

The organisation is in negotiation with an unnamed celebrity about promoting 'Someone to talk to' later in the year.
