Diary: Let's Do Lunch - Fino

Reviewed by Kate Wild, founder and managing director, Wild Card.

The charming doorman, who bears a striking resemblance to Ray Charles, is a slightly incongruous welcome to Fino, a modern Spanish restaurant and bar in Fitzrovia. Minimalist in style and subtly resonating an Iberian personality, Fino has a cheerful mood and effervescent atmosphere in which no one feels intimidated.

It is a clear favourite with women, dining in pairs or groups. The light and airy restaurant with well-spaced tables gives room for manoeuvre and for exuberant ideas to be thrown around at lunch.

A hungry rugby player and a figure-conscious model can both get value for money here, and the recommended selections allow you to sample from across the excellent menu with minimum perusal for maximum benefit.

Lunch can be a completely hands-on experience or managed with a knife and fork. Attentive service is never intrusive.

The recommended Fino Classic Selection at £17.95 per person is a good option, while The Gourmet (£28 per person) is a bit messier.

The zesty pimentos de padron are a Fino speciality not to be missed, while a chocolate shot drunk through a straw is a decadent but fun end to the meal.
