Voluntary Sector: Fundraising body in drive for clarity

The Institute of Fundraising will use its annual national convention to launch an initiative designed to promote accountability and transparency in the charity sector.

Shelter director of fundraising Alan Gosschalk said charities needed to do more to educate the public on the way they were run.

'Research indicates that charities are generally trusted by the public but often misunderstood,' said Gosschalk. 'We will be helping them develop better media relations to promote greater clarity on how charity finances work.'

Gosschalk will be joined in a three-hour session by RNID chief executive John Low and Association of Fundraising Professionals chief executive Paulette Maehara.

The convention is being held at the Hilton London Metropole from 11-13 July.
