Diary: Hit or Miss... The new Lexus Toyota subsidiary

Lexus's bid to position itself as a greener alternative has been lapped up by tabloids and broadsheets alike.

While dissenters such as Top Gear's Richard Hammond opined that 'as a means of saving the world, it's not really up there' (The Mirror), his colleague in Ireland Brian Twomey hailed the Lexus RX400h, which uses both petrol and electric motors to cut consumption and emissions, as 'the most important car in the company's history'. The Sunday Times's Richard Oakley called it 'a shiny bubble of calm'.
