Edelman names Ireland director

DUBLIN: Edelman has poached Mark Cahalane to head its Dublin office from rival Irish agency Drury Communications, where he is an executive director.

Cahalane joins Edelman as general manager on 1 September after three months' gardening leave. He will lead the 20-strong Dublin team with a brief to develop clients in the financial, technology and healthcare sectors.

He replaces Hugh Gillanders, who left in January to become European corporate comms director at General Electric.

At Drury, Cahalane's role is to be split between existing management.

Edelman has also given its deputy general manager in Dublin, Geraldine O'Neill, a wider brief. She has taken on the additional role of head of the agency's European consumer practice with a brief to bolster consumer business across Europe.

- Edelman has hired independent consultant Jan Soderberg to be CEO of its Spanish operation. Edelman Europe CEO David Brain said the hire reflected growing PR spend in the country.
