Egypt tourist board seeks agency

The Egyptian State Tourist Office is on the hunt for PR support to capitalise on the expansion of tourism and quell fears of terrorism.

It is understood to have held preliminary discussions with a number of agencies for a combined PR and advertising contract but has yet to hold a formal pitch.

The Egyptian government also wants to raise awareness of its investment in security and its improvement schemes, such as the clear-up of the Nile.

Despite a spate of violence at Egypt's Red Sea resorts - including a bomb attack that killed 31 people last November - tour operators are continuing to plough cash into the region and visitor numbers are on the rise.

Operators are increasingly investing in the mid-haul market because the short-haul sector is suffering from the budget-flight-led independent travel boom.

British Airways franchise partner GB Airways recently started flying to Cairo to allow easier travel within the country for holidaymakers.

A number of large resorts are currently being built.
