Page leads Australia's effort to attract Europeans

Tourism Australia has called in Dawn Page to promote the country to Europeans, as Melbourne prepares to host the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Page joins in the London-based role of comms manager for Europe from Tourism Flanders, where she was press relations manager.

Promoting Australia is a radically different challenge for Page, who until recently was in charge of promoting the scenes of First World War battles to Britons as a short-break destinations.

Page replaces European PR and promotions manager Kate Kenward, who left last month after 15 years (PRWeek, 8 April).

Tourism Australia took its PR in-house after sounding out agencies for the account last year. It had used BGB Communications for external support for 17 years.

Page said BGB would, however, still handle press trips and other projects for the 'foreseeable future'.

Her team includes the body's Hong Kong PR and promotions manager Louise Hodges. BGB account manager Emma Humphreys has also joined Tourism Australia as UK, Ireland & Nordic PR manager.
