Georgalakis will take up the newly created post of PR campaigns manager in June, reporting to head of communications Neil Thorns.
He will be responsible for overseeing the Big Eye Opener campaign, which kicks off on the longest day of the year, 21 June. The aim is to draw attention to the plight of people around the world who have gone blind, reminding potential donors to appreciate the gift of sight during the extra minutes of daylight.
The charity will release statistics showing that 75 per cent of blindness could be prevented or cured, in a bid to encourage funding.
Georgalakis will also work at strengthening relationships with corporate partners.
