Public Sector: Scotland urged to get 'Walkwise'

The Scottish Executive is backing a new magazine for 40 to 65-year-olds dedicated to getting people active. Walkwise is part of the executive's 'healthyliving' campaign to improve the nation's health, managed by The Big Partnership.

Scotland has the worst rate of heart disease in Europe, with 40 to 65-yearolds particularly vulnerable. Walking has been identified as one of the best ways for people in this age group to get fit, said a spokeswoman.

The 68-page magazine offers over 25 walks for all physical abilities, covering coastal and urban routes.

More than 80,000 copies are being distributed to news agents, fitness centres, pharmacies, council offices and community centres.
