E&O in Notting Hill is a truly cosmopolitan restaurant - you can eat food from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China and Thailand, served by staff from Australia, South Africa, France, Spain and even Britain, while listening to the jungle rhythms of Africa.
So exotic is the Asian fusion menu that they attach a glossary to help you understand what you have ordered and where it is from.
Perhaps they should add a guide to how to eat it too - I think I was right in just eating the inside of my 'edamame' (soy beans in a soy and rice wine sauce) but the lady at the next table was taking no chances and simply sucked the outside of hers.
My guest spent 20 minutes trying to mop up the 'wonderful Asian sauce', which turned out to be the pattern on his plate.
Our friendly waiter had tentatively suggested that the best way to enjoy the menu was to order several items to share - like many Brits I used to hate this sharing lark but now I realise that sharing food is a great way to bond with your lunch guest.
It's also a great excuse to eat more of E&O's delicious food in one sitting - after all, who can possibly keep track of how many dishes you have had?
