GM overhauls roster for consumer focus

General Motors has beefed up its PR roster as it attempts to focus on the consumer lifestyle press, with spend increased 'significantly' to more than £1m.

The world's biggest car maker, which this week announced a net loss of $1.1bn (£576m) for the first three months of 2005, has brought all brand managers into a single PR department for the UK and Ireland, under executive comms director Collette Dunkley.

'We're looking at the cars as a portfolio of brands rather than separate business streams,' said Vauxhall consumer PR manager Simon Ewart.

Halpern will handle Saab's first UK consumer PR brief, highlighting its 'Swedish design ethic' and aviation industry credentials to consumers.

Jackie Cooper PR has scooped consumer accounts, each worth around £150,000, for new Astra and Tigra models.

Dunkley intends to review communications for Chevrolet when she returns from maternity leave in September.

QBO Bell Pottinger, which has worked for Vauxhall for three years, has been retained for the Vauxhall brand and Meriva and Zafira models, with an additional remit to target Londoners.
