Former Manchester United footballer Danny Wallace is competing in the London Marathon on 17 April as part of the MS Society's campaign during this year's MS Week. The charity is using retained agency Harrison Bergman to arrange case-study interviews with Wallace, three other MS sufferers and around 200 fundraising runners taking part in this year's race in the week before MS Week. It will target national press and local radio in the areas the competitors come from.

Harrison Bergman will also provide the event's press office, run by sponsor Flora, with background on the individuals to supply to the press on the day.

This year, the MS Society has produced a 70-page booklet giving GPs advice on dealing with MS symptoms and drugs to alleviate them.

Harrison Bergman is to target health correspondents on national newspapers, and healthcare and voluntary sector titles, with information about the leaflet during MS Week.

The charity also plans to use the week to promote fresh research into the differing experience of MS patients, families and carers of the social care system.

The MS Society has around 350 branches, which act as fundraising and support groups. There are about 85,000 MS sufferers in the UK.
