Healthcare: Krol and Smeeth land top F-H Europe and UK roles

Fleishman-Hillard has recruited Patrick Krol, founder of Dutch healthcare comms agency Firm United, to lead its European healthcare PR offer from London.

Good Relations Healthcare MD Michael Smeeth is also to join F-H to head its UK healthcare PR arm.

The hires follow the integration of the CPR Worldwide brand into the F-H group in January.

Steve Carroll - the sole co-founder of CPR Worldwide still with the agency - said Krol's taskwas to 're-energise' F-H's healthcare business across the Continent. Krol and Smeeth replace Carroll, who moves to a consultancy role within F-H when the pair arrive next month.

Carroll has been running F-H's European healthcare business since the resignations of former UK MD Scott Clark and the then CPR Worldwide MD Oliver Parsons 13 months ago.

The duo have since set up Tonic Life Communications (PRWeek, 8 October 2004).

Krol joins as director of pan-European healthcare PR. Smeeth joins as associate director of UK healthcare PR. Krol will report to F-H regional director, UK and South Africa, Kevin Bell; Smeeth reports to Krol.

'We have strong relations in healthcare PR in the US. We want to be as strong in Europe,' said Carroll.

They will lead a 30-strong UK team, handling clients including AstraZeneca (migraine drug Zomig in Europe), and a heart failure awareness programme for a consortium including Pfizer, Medtronic and Guidant in the UK.

Bell said Krol had been mulling a move to the UK since selling his share of Firm United to co-founder Berend Dielderman last year.

Smeeth joined Good Relations 14 months ago. He was previously director of comms at Brent Primary Care NHS Trust.
