Voluntary Sector: Palsy group bids to inform medics

The Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) Association is campaigning to educate health professionals about the degenerative brain disease.

The charity wants to increase the profile of the condition, which it claims is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease and other neuro-degenerative disorders.

It will try to raise awareness about latest research, which shows that PSP is at least as common as motor neurone disease. It says misdiagnosis means that up to 10,000 people could be suffering from the condition, despite official statistics putting the number at 3,000.

Therapists, nurses, doctors, neurologists and geriatricians will be targeted.
