Novell calls pitch for comms efficiency

IT company Novell, an arch-competitor to Microsoft in the operating systems market, is reviewing its PR needs across EMEA as it seeks to better target its communications efforts.

The review affects the firm's agencies across Europe and could jeopardise Porter Novelli's hold on Novell's UK and EMEA hub accounts, worth around £250,000.

Novell EMEA comms director Nadia Scully said she had contacted nine agencies about the EMEA and UK briefs and would draw up a shortlist of six by mid-April.

The former brief is to co-ordinate Novell's PR across EMEA by putting together and disseminating a lead comms programme for all the territories.

Scully said Novell's review was taking place in 'layers' beginning with the hub and UK briefs in order to 'try and rationalise our PR and make sure the countries from which we derive the bulk of our revenue get the bulk of our PR investment'.

She added that the restructure was designed to make Novell's PR 'more central and efficient' and in the longer term could also affect its other 11 agencies, which include Drury Communications in Ireland.
