Diary: ... as Chelgate puts booze up for grabs

Those politicos too busy to head to Spin Bar could maybe spend their spare time bidding to win a case of champagne from public affairs shop Chelgate by predicting the result of the next general election.

Chelgate calls to tell us it has revived its 2001 competition challenging all-comers to predict the outcome of the vote, expected to take place on 5 May.

Whoever guesses closest to the margin between the winning party and the runner-up will win 12 bottles of bubbly - and there is an extra bottle of malt whisky thrown in for those who get their (winning) entry in a month or more before the date of the election.

Who says the days of champagne socialism are over?
