Meccano in bid for 'cool' status

Cult 1970s construction toy Meccano is set for its first UK PR activity since being bought by Japanese company Nikko four years ago.

It will compete against the likes of Bob the Builder-branded products via an Image Wizard campaign.

Holli Ng, marketing assistant for Meccano at Nikko, said: 'We haven't done anything on Meccano since taking it over. Modern Meccano is very stylish and easy to use, and the factory has invested a lot of money in its designs.'

She added: 'We hope to put it at the forefront of people's minds. We want young people to say it's cool.'
