Former FA man in switch to cricket

The PRO at the centre of the Faria Alam scandal that rocked the Football Association last year has been hired to oversee cricket's PR.

Colin Gibson, a former Daily Mail sports editor, is to join the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on 4 April as head of comms.

Gibson resigned as the FA's director of comms last year amid a media firestorm that also led to the exit of CEO Mark Palios.

He will replace John Read, who quit last year (PRWeek, 16 July 2004).

Gibson said it was 'an extremely exciting time' for cricket.

Guardian cricket writer Paul Weaver told PRWeek the ECB faced 'economic difficulties' despite changes made to the game.
