Ofwat comms job goes to Pethick

Water regulator Ofwat has promoted stalwart Fiona Pethick to a beefed-up communications role to help fight a price hike backlash.

Pethick, who has been with Ofwat since it was formed in 1989, managed communications surrounding last year's price review and is now head of corporate affairs.

Charges were set higher than consumer groups expected - but not as high as water companies wanted, with Severn Trent requesting a 29 per cent increase.

Consumers face an average 18 per cent price increase from April, but water companies have claimed that this would not cover the cost of upgrading infrastructure.

Pethick replaces former external relations director Julia Harvard, who retired from Ofwat's top PR job last December.
