H&K appoints Ilett as Kan opts for consultant role

Hill & Knowlton has hired Nicola Ilett, co-founder of 1990s healthcare hotshop Bullet Communications, as UK healthcare managing director.

Ilett, who will join full time in April, has been recruited after Mike Kan's decision to base himself in both London and France and step down to a senior consultant role.

AstraZeneca (UK and international), Roche UK, Merck Sharp & Dohme and Crookes Healthcare are among the agency's major healthcare clients.

Ilett, who has already started work for H&K on a part-time basis, will 'work closely with' EMEA head of healthcare Nick May and reports to the agency's UK chief Marie Louise Windeler.

Kan has spent the past few months living and working in London and France. The agency has been looking to bring in a permanently London-based pharma MD for around four months.

Ilett began her career at H&K more than two decades ago.
She went on to co-found and become joint-MD of Bullet Communications, which she sold to publisher Blackwell Science in 1997 (PRWeek, 11 July 1997).

She become a non-executive director of Blackwell Publishing five years ago and has combined this role with advising public and private-sector clients.

H&K's UK healthcare team has 30 staff; other recent changes have included the promotion of Shipra Singh to the London board and Carrie Monaghan to associate director.

Louise Strong joined as an associate director last year from drugs firm Lilly UK.

H&K's consumer health clients continue to be managed separately, under the aegis of marcoms head Wendy Mair.

Kan joined H&K as a director in 1997 from Burson-Marsteller.
