In Press promotes Cooperatives association

OCB, the organisation of Brazilian Cooperatives which represents and regulates the fast-growing cooperative sector, has hired In Press Porter Novelli to boost its PR in the country.

Founded in 1969, OCB is based in Brasilia, and has 7,136 member cooperatives (member-owned enterprises which return profits to members), encompassing a total of over 6.1 million individuals country-wide.

In Press was appointed following a pitch including four other agencies according to executive director Patricia Marins. Marins will supervise a team comprising Geraldo Moura and Simone Caldas, reporting to OCB president Marcio Lopes.

The agency will focus on media relations, and will also offer media training for association officials.

'Cooperatives are rapidly expanding in Brazil, but most people are not aware of this reality. OCB hired us to show society the benefits of cooperatives,' Marins said.

OCB handles licensing and regulatory issues for cooperatives as well as lobbying for and representing member organisations. Cooperatives are present in many sectors, however they are particularly strong in the agricultural, real estate, credit, health, education and transport industries.
