Dubai to host 2nd Middle East CSR summit

Dubai is to host the second Middle East Corporate Social Responsibility Summit in June, which will look at the importance of CSR for the region's growth and long-term development.

Supported by Shell, Dubai Development and Investment Authority and the United Nations Development Programme, the event will focus on the necessity and benefits of implementing CSR. Main topics include the obligations and opportunities that CSR presents, measuring its cost and benefits, business regulations in the Middle East and the mounting pressure on corporations to account for their environmental and social performance.

Zeyad Al Majed, manager of policy development at DDIA said that while companies in the region are beginning to take CSR seriously, it needs to be regarded as a business principle and placed at the top of their agenda. Companies should realise 'that by implementing socially responsible and sustainable programmes that bring long term benefit to society and raise the standard of living, they are also helping to make their businesses sustainable long term,' he said.
