Russian ratings dominated by 'new' brands

Winners of the Narodnaya Marka national brand ratings have been announced across twenty categories of goods and services, with 112,500 votes collected from across the Russian Federation.

Consumers were asked to name the first brand that came to mind, and state how far they trust, or would recommend it. Samsung came out top in both the notebook and mobile categories, with Sony taking the top spot for its video cameras. Winners in the white goods categories included Stinol, Indesit and LG.

Ratings were announced by Vladimir Kismereshkin, chairman of the committee for advertising at the Russian Federation chamber of commerce and Industry and head of the Centre for Economic Programmes. 'Since 1998, results of the Narodnaya Marka have been the clearest indicator of the development of the Russian market,' he said. 'Formerly, winners were predominantly post-Soviet memory brands such as Krasny Oktyabr, Ural and Zolotoi Yarlyk, but have given way to brands that have appeared in the last ten years.'
