Cake director Jones leaves agency after five years

Cake co-founding partner and joint creative director Ben Jones left the agency this week without a job to go to.

Jones will continue to act as a consultant to the agency – which has clients such as Evian, Reebok, Orange, Carling Live and Nintendo Europe – working on ad hoc projects.

Mark Whelan, who formerly shared the title of joint creative director, has become sole top creative in the wake of Jones’s exit.

In a statement released by Cake, Jones said: ‘After five years I thought it was time for a change.

‘I am looking at some film and writing ideas that have been locked in a bottom drawer getting dusty. I am also exploring some other industry projects, including some work with Cake and its clients,’ he added.

Cake CEO Mike Mathieson said: ‘Ben will be sorely missed. Working with him has been an absolute pleasure and I look forward to seeing his creative debut on the silverscreen.’

Jones was one of four partners at Cake, which he helped set up in 1999.
