Diary: Tabloids can't get enough of Doherty

The media profile of Pete Doherty, the self-confessed drug-taking ex-Libertines rocker who now fronts the band Babyshambles, has rocketed in the past fortnight, with his tryst with supermodel Kate Moss catapulting him onto the tabloids' front pages.

The PR man behind Doherty is Tony Linkin, who runs the music PR arm of Coalition Group and points to a 'bit of a bunker spirit' in the agency's West London offices this week, given the deluge of interest in the wayward star.

Linkin, who confesses that he has not spoken to Doherty 'for about a week' says the singer 'is not really talking to anyone (in the media) - and I wouldn't really advise him to'.

Linkin explains that Doherty is recording his new single and that he wants to 'bring (coverage) back to the music and away from all this sensationalist stuff'.

But surely all these red-top front pages can only boost record and gig sales? Linkin disputes this, saying the tabloids 'keep regurgitating the same thing' (mainly his interest in drugs).

Linkin himself is no stranger to the impressive impact that Moss can have on boyfriend rockers' media profile - he is, we can't resist pointing out, also the publicist behind former Lemonheads singer Evan Dando, one of Moss's colourful former squeezes.
