Diary: Barclays survey surprise for Lexis

Lexis PR has been busy of late promoting a survey by Premiership sponsor Barclays into the spending habits of football fans.

The survey has garnered a somewhat mixed response among sports hacks, with a piece in Monday's Times branding it a 'cosmetic act'.

Indeed, its writer, sports reporter Rick Broadbent, slams 'such surveys as ultimately useless' (though clearly not so useless as to prevent writing a sizeable piece on them) and Barclays' findings as 'not earth-shattering'.

PRWeek felt it was our duty to contact Lexis's W1 offices to ask for its sentiments on the Times piece - after all, the author's brother Greg is, er, long-serving finance director at the agency.

Lexis's unflappable director Margot Raggett tells us Greg was 'certainly surprised' when he read the article, while he assures us: 'It just goes to show there is certainly no nepotism in our family.'

He then adds: 'We're just pleased our survey has provoked such passionate debate.' Well, that's one way of looking at it Greg.
