Tulchan to boost Carrefour profile

Carrefour, the world’s second-largest retailer, has drafted in Tulchan Communications as its first international corporate comms agency.

Carrefour director of comms David Shriver said the company had appointed the UK City shop in a bid to build its profile in New York and London.

Although Carrefour is second only to America’s Wal-Mart in international retailing and is Europe’s largest supermarket group, the company has no operations in the UK or US markets and correspondingly smaller recognition in the English-speaking media.

In spite of improved fourth-quarter results, shareholders are upset by underperformance in Carrefour’s core French market and a relatively low stock price.
