AS Biss to push Nationwide as consumer champion

Nationwide Building Society has handed AS Biss & Co its public affairs account as part of a strategy to position itself as a champion of first-time buyers and the man on the street.

The appointment comes as Nationwide puts pressure on the Government to reduce stamp duty for people wanting to gain a foothold on the housing ladder. Nationwide public affairs manager Sarah Atkinson said: ‘We have to create a climate of affordability for first-time buyers if we are to keep the housing market moving.’

Nationwide executive director Stuart Bernau will next month give evidence before a Treasury Select Committee investigating banks that charge customers to make withdrawals from cash machines.

AS Biss pitched against Bell Pottinger Public Affairs, Weber Shandwick Public Affairs and Good Relations Political. The incumbent was LLM Communications.
