LGComms in lobbying push

Trade body LGComms is planning a campaign to reposition itself as a lobbying-based organisation.

LGComms, whose membership is made up of local authority comms departments, is to design a programme of promotional events that will be announced at its annual conference in April.

It will target government departments, council communications departments and local government press.

Secretary Kevin Wilson said: ‘In the past, there has been some crossover with the IPR Local Government Group so we are having to rethink how we position ourselves.’

As the IPR represents individuals and their career development, LGComms will now assume a more defined role but will continue to represent council comms departments, Wilson added.

LGComms is also reviewing its membership costs.
