Murphy quits Barclays post

Barclays Capital head of UK and Europe corporate marcoms Loretta Murphy has quit the role after just nine months.

Murphy joined the investment bank last March from Commerzbank to take over UK and Europe responsibilities from head of corporate comms and global marketing John Anderson. She is understood to have left without a job to go to.

Anderson told PRWeek that Barclays Capital was in the ‘early stages’ of finding a replacement for Murphy, who led a 20-strong team with responsibility for teams on the Continent.

Murphy could not be reached for comment as PRWeek went to press, but is thought to have left Barclays Capital earlier this month to seek a position with a different work-life balance, according to an insider.

Prior to joining Barclays Capital – the investment banking arm of Barclays Group – Murphy was head of corporate communications at Commerzbank for six years, having joined the German bank from a similar role at French rival Societe Generale.

Murphy is an ex-treasurer at the IPR’s corporate and financial group committee.
