Airbus, which has just launched its A380 ‘super-jumbo’, stopped working with FD last week. The account is now led by Maitland senior consultant Martin Leeburn.
Airbus’s PR account with FD, which covered financial PR in Europe’s main financial markets, is believed to have been worth around £75,000 a year. FD managing director Andrew Lorenz declined to comment. Airbus and Leeburn were unavailable for comment.
FD took over the Airbus account in 2002 from Merlin Financial after Merlin was appointed to the strategic and corporate account at European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, which owns 80 per cent of Airbus.
Airbus unveiled its A380 super-jumbo – which can carry 800 people – in Toulouse on 10 January.
Industry analysts have speculated that if demand for the plane is weaker than anticipated, prohibitive development costs could financially cripple the firm, which has reportedly invested £6.4bn in the aircraft.
The long-haul double-decker passenger plane has facilities such as a cinema and casino.
