UK firms endorse global register

UK drugs firms have lauded plans to set up a global register of clinical trials on new prescription-only medicines as ‘a major step towards achieving greater transparency’.

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) last week endorsed proposals – drawn up by the world’s top pharma trade associations, such as US body PhRMA, and agreed by major companies – saying they had the ‘full endorsement’ of the UK industry.

Rather than placing information on a single website, the industry will ensure all sites are linked as some companies – such as GlaxoSmithKline and Eli Lilly – have already created their own sites.
