Kellogg’s steals Ryanair PR chief

DUBLIN: Kellogg’s has drafted in Ryanair PR chief Paul Fitzsimmons to spearhead its efforts across Europe to be seen as a ‘responsible manufacturer’ on health and obesity issues.

The move leaves Ryanair bereft of a head of comms, a role that oversees the low-cost airline’s PR across 19 countries and 12 offices.

Fitzsimmons takes up the post of Kellogg’s director of corporate comms, Europe, in January, when it relocates its European headquarters from Manchester to Dublin. He leaves Ryanair after more than two years and replaces Chris Wermann, who will leave in March after 12 months in the role.

‘I knew there was going to be a relocation when I took the job, which is why I only took a 12-month contract,’ said Wermann, who does not yet have a job to go to. ‘I was offered to take the contract on into Dublin, but my family and I do not want to move.’

Wermann said Fitzsimmons will need to promote Kellogg’s stance on healthy-eating issues, taking overall responsibility for its CSR, PA, consumer and internal comms across EMEA.

Kellogg’s recently dropped Hill & Knowlton as its UK consumer PR agency, hiring Munro & Forster Communications.
