Diary: Charity begins at, er, home, KPMG

Now there's associating with charities on a corporate social responsibility level - and then there's actually socialising with them.

It appears, given events last week, that accountancy giant KPMG is rather more keen on one than the other.

When Mencap invited us to view its Snap! exhibition of photos by people with learning disabilities, currently on display in a KPMG lobby, the charity was turned away at the door.

Mencap press officers were told that the firm was holding a reception for clients in the foyer, and since Mencap had not been invited, they were not allowed inside.

Although it was a consolation that we were able to seek shelter in a local pub, KPMG corporate comms manager Louise Harvey later apologised.

'It was a misunderstanding as there was a private function going on that evening. We are very proud to have the exhibition in our foyer and PRWeek is more than welcome to come back and have a look at it another time.'
