Washington bids for livelier image

Washington DC: The US capital is aiming to broaden its image to British tourists by emphasising its entertainment value.

The Washington DC Convention and Tourism Corporation has appointed Charisma PR after a pitch against Siren PR and Travel & Tourism Marketing.

‘People think of Washington DC as the seat of political power. While it has some of the best monuments and museums in the world there is also a great nightlife,’ said Charisma assistant director Gwynneth Harkus.

She added that the campaign would ‘re-acquaint people with the city and its range of trendy shopping outlets and nightlife’.
