One NorthEast to plug heritage

Regional development agency One NorthEast has issued a tender for PR help to improve the North-East’s image through raising awareness of its heritage.

It follows 18 months of strategic planning involving research by MORI and has the aim of attracting tourists and businesses – domestic and international – to boost the region’s economy.

One NorthEast comms director Stacy Hall said: ‘The research has recommended an approach for promoting the region that plays to our key strengths, which will be meaningful and persuasive to tourists, business investors, relocaters and, importantly, local people.’

A spokesman added that the drive would build awareness of the region rather than address any negative perceptions: ‘There is awareness of the North-East – things like the Great North Run, Hadrian’s Wall and the coastline’s heritage – that we want to build on.’

One NorthEast is also creating two additional in-house PR positions to help manage the campaign, although details of the posts are yet to be finalised.
