Musmanno joins from Unilever Cosmetics International where she was vice-president of global PR for its perfumes division. Prior to Unilever, Musmanno held global PR roles at Sanofi and Elizabeth Arden.
In her new role, Musmanno will work directly with Dior’s legendary designer John Galliano, managing PR for each of the lines he designs.
These include new contact lens sets for the Dior Eyes range that attracted a glut of publicity when the designs were first released. The lenses create an illusion of a golden or black ring around the iris.
Musmanno will report to Dior president and CEO Sidney Toledano.
Her role is a strategically important one of supporting a strong recent performance by the company, according to Toledano, who highlighted store openings and product initiatives as the main factors behind Dior’s success this year.
Dior has already opened new stores in more than a dozen locations in 2004, notably in Prague, Houston, Taipei and Waikiki.
China and Japan have figured prominently in new store plans towards the end of this year.
Dior’s operating profits increased by 37 per cent for the first half of 2004.
