The council has teamed up with Nottinghamshire Police to run the anti-gun campaign, in the wake of Danielle Beccan’s killing in the St Ann’s area of the city.
The two-week amnesty will run from 1 December, where Nottingham residents will be asked to hand in firearms.
The campaign is expected to carry the strapline ‘Not in Nottingham, not in my city’, and will use local celebrities, such as Trent FM DJs Jo and Twiggy,
former footballer Des Walker and civic leaders in an advertising campaign set to appear on bus stops.
A council spokesman said: ‘The campaign will tell those who know people with guns that they are not isolated. It will encourage people to put pressure on gun owners to hand them in.’
Nottinghamshire Police dealt with an average of one shooting a week in 2003.
