The move comes as the council examines how to boost the amount of waste recycled from 22.6 per cent to 40 per cent by 2005/6 in line with European Union legislation.
Activities will include a door-stepping consultation campaign to raise awareness of recycling waste and to identify where the greatest potential regions are to increase recycling.
A spokeswoman said: ‘We are looking for an organisation that can deliver activities such as door-stepping and events but we don’t yet know where these activities will take place or to what scale.’
The one-year contract could be extended to three years, said a spokeswoman.
The project is being managed by Project Integra, a body made up of all
the major local authorities in Hampshire, including Portsmouth.
