GCI is aiming to raise awareness of sleep apnoea and ResMed’s Centre for Healthy Sleep in Oxfordshire, which is due to open next month. GCI Healthcare MD Rhonda Smith said: ‘Sufferers of sleep apnoea snore and wake constantly at night due to their upper airways being constricted.
‘Sleep apnoea is also associated with high blood pressure, arrhythmia, menopause, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption… GPs and practice nurses need to be on the lookout for this currently under-recognised condition.’
GPs in and near Oxfordshire will be able to refer patients to the Centre for Healthy Sleep for testing, equipment and support.
GCI has formerly worked with ResMed on a project basis.
