APPOINTMENT: Celebrity booking and management company MCS Agency has appointed former Rajar communications director David Longman as PR and marketing director.

Clients include Barings Bank nemesis Nick Leeson, model agency Sugar Babes, health expert Dr Ali and Linda Lusardi.

TRAVEL: Business travel reservation specialist Galileo has hired Brighter PR to promote an expansion of its products and services into the leisure sector. The agency will also attempt to raise the firm’s corporate profile across the UK and Ireland.

APPOINTMENT: Northern Foods has appointed Tony Smith as interim PR manager to replace Debbie Sutton who is on maternity leave. Smith is former comms and PR manager for the wound management division of Smith & Nephew.

AWARDS: The Fish Can Sing has been shortlisted for three Marketing Design Awards on 11 November. These include best viral and best brand experience for clients Motorola and Grolsch.

APPOINTMENT: Former Brave PR senior account manager Louise Hearn has joined start-up branding outfit Maiow in the role of communications director.

TECHNOLOGY: SafeNet, the world’s seventh-largest information security company, is using Lewis PR to promote the group’s European operations. SafeNet makes security software for the US Department of Defense, the National Security Agency and the Department for Homeland Security.

PAUL WOODROW: Well-known freelance PRO Paul Woodrow has died suddenly aged 48. Woodrow covered many aspects of PR and worked at Cable & Wireless and Robson Rhodes. He recently worked closely with Abchurch Communications.
