Diary: Outside CEO on trip down memory lane

The Outside Organisation CEO Alan Edwards was in jubilant but nostalgic mood this week, fresh from attending a pair of London gigs by a charity 'supergroup' assembled by Express Newspapers owner Richard Desmond.

The shows featured Desmond on drums, plus singing from Roger Daltrey - frontman of The Who, the rockers for whom Edwards has done PR since PRWeek was in short pants - and an auction by BBC chair Michael Grade.

Ears still ringing, Edwards goes all nostalgic on us when asked if he enjoyed the show: 'My first job in music PR was to go on the road with The Who ... in those days, limos and champagne for the media were the norm - but I wasn't aware of this.'

He explains: 'I was asked to take Fleet Street's finest to Wembley to review them, but instead of luxury transport I walked them onto a rush-hour Tube train at Baker Street.

'I got some odd looks from the press, who obviously didn't envisage me being in PR for a long run!'

But as our picture proves, the Outside chief continues to rock on.
