Deputy PM’s son Prescott lands role at Grayling

David Prescott, the youngest son of Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, has called a halt to his broadcast journalism career and is to enter the PR industry next week.

Prescott joins Grayling on Monday (1 November) where he will use his experience as a journalist to provide media relations advice to a range of clients. He joins as account director at its London office, reporting to Grayling UK PR chief executive Amanda Riddle.

Prescott, 34, has been an editor for the BBC’s Look North programme for the past couple of years. Prior to that he was a reporter at GMTV.

Riddle said Grayling was ‘aware of the sensitivities’ over his personal background as the Deputy PM’s son and would ‘put boundaries in place’ to ensure there were no conflict of interests with his father’s role. She added that he would provide strong insights on dealing with media based outside London.

Grayling’s UK operation numbers 100 staff across the UK.

Prescott was on honeymoon and unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press.
