Sheffield seeks fireworks safety

Sheffield City Council has teamed up with local football league clubs to highlight the risks of handling fireworks – and is in talks to involve ice-hockey team the Sheffield Steelers in the run-up to Guy Fawkes Night.

The target is children, with particular emphasis on boys aged 11 to 17.

The football teams will display firework safety messages on their scoreboards at matches between now and 5 November.

The council has also joined forces with South Yorkshire Police to launch a helpline for residents to make complaints about nuisance or report the misuse of fireworks.
