AA PR chief Myers loses out in cull

Karen Myers, stalwart comms director at motoring services giant the Automobile Association (AA), has been made redundant.

Myers’s role has been axed as part of a cull triggered by Centrica’s sale of the AA to venture capital groups CVC Capital Partners and Permira, in which the entire senior marketing team has been scrapped.

Myers wants to remain in the PR industry but does not have a new job lined up.

Her exit leaves head of news Richard Freeman and head of PR Becky Hadley as the AA’s two most senior communicators.

The AA has a 25-strong comms team, with around 17 PROs handling media relations. All comms staff report to road sales and marketing director Kerry Cooper but business functions are being reviewed.

Myers joined in 1983 as a junior PR assistant and traffic broadcaster. After a spell in fashion PR, she returned to the AA in 1988 as a regional PRO. She was appointed as comms director in 2002.
