CA leads call for workers’ agency

Citizens Advice is spearheading a campaign to persuade the Government to set up an employment rights agency for the UK’s lowest paid and most vulnerable workers.

The charity claims workers are afraid of being victimised or dismissed if they assert their statutory rights.

Oxfam, The National Group on Homeworking and One Parent Families are backing the campaign, which argues that legal protection offered by the employment tribunal system is meaningless. The charities have published a report outlining the case for a ‘Fair Employment Commission’, which would take a more proactive approach to compliance and enforcement of the law.

The Department of Trade and Industry, trade unions, NGOs, academics and large employers will be targeted.
