Forbes Irving started work this week in the newly created London-based role and will aim to develop the agency’s ethical pharma and medical education business.
Forbes Irving joins the agency following three years as senior V-P responsible for US and international accounts at medical education outfit Health Learning Systems, part of CommonHealth, in New Jersey.
He has also formerly worked as a director with Edelman, Porter Novelli and Excerpta Medica (the med ed arm of Reed Elsevier).
GCI has 28 offices and 17 affiliates across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the majority of which work on healthcare business.
GCI UK healthcare MD Rhonda Smith is unaffected by the appointment of Forbes Irving, who reports to GCI UK and Europe chairman Adrian Wheeler. Forbes Irving will work closely with GCI’s US healthcare practice in New York and with Grey Healthcare Group and is likely to divide his time between London and the Continent.
GCI European healthcare clients include Lilly, Novartis and US-based medical device maker Medtronic.
Forbes Irving’s appointment ends a recruitment process that Wheeler said had taken 12 months.
