Bill Haworth started work in Ofcom’s newly created role of external relations executive for the English regions this week.
Issues with regional ramifications overseen by Ofcom include a raft of new FM radio licence applications and the digital switchover.
Haworth formerly handled regional PR for the Independent Television Commission, one of the bodies Ofcom replaced.
He has spent the past few months working for Ofcom on a temporary contract, looking after regulatory issues in the Granada and Yorkshire areas.
He reports to director for England Simon Crine, who joined seven months ago from APCO UK (PRWeek, 23 January).
