Defra hires PRO to run rural desk

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has appointed a chief press officer to its rural affairs and local environment quality desk.

Marcia Nash has joined from the Ministry of Defence, where she worked on long-term media projects, such as documentaries, for the Royal Air Force.

Nash is in charge of a three-strong team and reports to head of news Martyn Smith.

The department has four desks covering the environment, food and farming, animal health and rural affairs.

The post of director of comms remains vacant after the departure of Lucian Hudson to the Department of Constitutional Affairs in August (PRWeek, 9 July).
