Motorola holds pitch to promote Sharapova link

CHICAGO: Mobile handset maker Motorola has held discussions with three agencies over a PR contract to promote its global marketing agreement with Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova.

PRWeek understands that Leader Enterprises, Hill & Knowlton and The Fish

Can Sing have pitched for an account that could have a budget of more than £250,000.

H&K’s Los Angeles office pitched for the account with a team that included staff from Dome Communications – the Chicago creative shop it bought three months ago.

London-based The Fish Can Sing also pitched, along with US agency Leader Enterprises.

Motorola PRO Shannon Swallow did not return calls on the review but it is understood that an agency appointment is on the cards shortly.

Motorola’s link-up with Sharapova, this year’s Wimbledon Ladies’ singles champion, was unveiled last month.

The 17-year-old, one of the youngest Wimbledon champions, will appear at Motorola-sponsored events and in global advertising for the brand.
